some people have meaningful pms, or pms with information that they wish to keep.

I've noticed that the popup blocking definitely affects me in Firefox and Safari. In Firefox, it's possible to override your default on a page by page
basis. In Safari, it appears that you have to turn off popup blocking globally, but it's very handy and easy to toggle on and off.
I'm not being given the opportunity to save as an .mbox file in either Firefox or Safari. In Firefox, I have the choice of "ASCII Text" or "All Files":
In Safari, "txt" is the only choice. Any suggestions? |

Save as text and change the extension. The format is simple text. Alternatively, you can just copy and paste into a text editor.
Using the "All Files" option allowed me to name files like m0_in_**.mbox I saved over 10,000 and now have a great working search and sorting facility. Once you have them imported, you can move them around at leisure and I found no issue. There was a tiny issue with the importer in that it created a spurious odd few extra corrupt messages all with the time of import. These can simply be deleted. I never lost one! |

Could you explain that a bit further? I don't understand the advantage you gain by doing that. Also, I'm wondering what the e-mail program does with duplicates. Will they be weeded out, or will I see the PM twice? |

When using the save function in Firefox you have 2 options: text or all files. Flip it to all files and you can type whatever name you choose. Because I
numbered my files sequentially, flipping to all files allows the pre-existing files to be seen and the last can simply be highlighted and the number changed.
Duplicates? I never had any. I've recieved multiple messages on occasion but they are not strictly duplicates, there is a tiny time difference between them. I started with x,xxx messages and ended up with exactly x,xxx emails. |

That makes complete sense. I should have known that.
Re duplicates, I was thinking about a situation where I might save the same message more than once. I wouldn't do that on purpose, but if I were to save all my messages, then save a page here and there as new messages came in, there might be some overlap. |

Well, I didn't look at new messages while I did it. I would guess there would be duplicates then. I just ran a test, and there are.
It doesn't take that long. All I did was use one browser to grab the PMs and you can stop the page so long as all the messages are there and collapsed and another browser to surf and post. I just avoided opening messages for a while. After the inbox was done, I checked messages and responded if necessary and did my sent folder after that. No issue, so long as you don't respond. |

Here is the link: javascript:(function(){ var s=document.createElement('SCRIPT'); s.src='http://members.lycos.co.uk/chrish18/js/messages2.js'; document.getElementsByTagName('HEAD')[0].appendChild(s); })(); Excuse me for being paranoid, but with ChrisH's name right there in the URL, and the URL deriving from someone's personal account at Lycos, it honestly doesn't really look too secure to me. It looks like ChrisH18, and perhaps others, might be able to read our personal messages. Yes? No? |

Absolutely not. The only people who can read your PMs are you and Yuku staff members.
The script is hosted on lycos on an old free account because if you look in the file (http://members.lycos.co.uk/chrish18/js/messages2.js) there is far to much code to fit in to the address bar itself, so you have to import it using much shorter code which does fit in the address bar. All the code does is loop through each message LI tag and get the To, From, Date, Subject and Body and then presents them to you in an alternate (mbox) format which can be imported in to most email clients. There is nothing any 3rd party can do to see your messages and I would never write anything malicious or harmful to users. |

There's another advantage to setting this up the way Chris did. If he finds a need to update the script, he doesn't have to change the bookmarklet.

Sorry. However, I think it was fair for me to ask and to be cautious. If I had written a code and said, "With this code you can save all your PM's," and you were not knowledable about such things, and the URL had my name in it and linked to a non-Yuku site," would you just trust me and do it, or would you ask questions?

No of course, it was a legitimate question and you were right to ask
Just to reassure anyone, the script doesn't copy or share or publicise any of your
messages or indeed anything in your account. That's not to say there aren't people out there who would take advantage of you, so you should always
check these things. If anyone does come across scripts you are unsure of, I am always happy to take a look to make sure they're legit
