Posts: 278 26 Apr, 2009 17:42	Tags : None Okay, guys, I hate to sound like I'm complaining, and I've tried to live with it, but it's driving me crazy. Honestly, the font size in the posts for this forum is very, very tiny. My poor eyes! I don't want to adjust the resolution in my browser because everything else looks fine, including the font size on other boards. I've been enlarging the font in my own posts here, but the posts by other members is very tiny and difficult to read. The ironic thing is, while my eyesight for things far-off is not the best, I have better than average eyesight for things close up. So, if I am saying it is too tiny to read, I can only imagine how it must be for others. I've noticed that many of the members are likewise manually enlarging the font size in their posts, so I know I'm not the only one who thinks the font is too tiny here. resident expert Posts: 1454 26 Apr, 2009 17:56 He who knows ALL (Well, ALMOST!)	You should be seeing it at 12px, which is really a medium font-size. It may be something to do with how it has been set though and which browser you are using. I note that it has an obsolete setting, a percentage setting (which is fine for IE) but no pixel setting for proper browsers. To be absolutely honest though, we are out of winter, past Valentine's and Easter, so I think it could benefit from a skin change. I have no powers to be able to do that though, I am afraid.

I don't think there is anything wrong with my browser's settings since the font size on all (or maybe I should say most) of the other Yuku boards looks fine. Here is a screenshot. Posts: 1 26 Apr, 2009 18:41	*Hello SciFi. . .* I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding the extremely small font size. In fact, I had to finally give up altogether reading any of my E-mails, or visiting any of the forums, because of the font size (from December until two weeks ago). Of course, it didn't help that I had cataracts on both eyes and was almost blind for the past 18 months. Now that I've had surgery performed on both eyes (February 10th and March 23rd), I am finally able to see everything for the first time in months. Even though the surgery has corrected my vision and I no longer have to wear glasses after wearing them for over 40 years, I still find that the small typeset eventually causes me to have headaches. For that reason, I usually try to type using a bolder font. In fact, after I type my message, I go back and highlight it in bold (not caps) which makes the font even clearer to read. I do find, however, that no two boards seem to use the same reply format. Since I know absolutely nothing about how the Administrators can control the various functions of their forum, I'm assuming they do have the capabilities of tweaking certain elements. I know there is one forum, of which I am a member, and there are several people who have a difficult time reading posts. The Forum Manager has, therefore, increased the font size to about 18 Bold; and everything is printed in red. For individuals who have severe vision problems, however, "green" is the preferred color of print. It is not so glaring, and much easier on the eyes. I'm so grateful for the improvement in my vision following the cataract surgery; however, I will keep those less fortunate in mind when I am submitting any posts. For many of us "golden oldies", the computer is our life-line to the rest of the world; and we certainly should be able to enjoy the forums, etc., just as much as anyone else. *Thanks, SciFi, for bringing this issue to everyone's attention. Posts: 280 26 Apr, 2009 18:51	There are settings in your browser where you can manually increase the font size. (18 px I think might be a bit too large, though.) The font size I set in my browser seems to work great with nearly everything on the Internet and nearly all Yuku boards. It just seems to be this particular board where the font size is too tiny for some reason.

The funny thing is that my eyesight has deteriorated somewhat and I should go and see about glasses for reading. The font here is just fine for me. 10px may be a tad small and 14px hard work and many posts with code in it would end up scrolling unnecessarily or worse, breaking. It is impossible to please everyone and only a happy medium is what IMHO, is best to be achieved. Caroline, I find your post very difficult to read. You have chosen a color, which does not contrast well with the background, it is all bold, italic and in a less clear font. My eyes have to work harder to read your post and my brain has to do much more processing to absorb it. I'm not criticising, just pointing out that people's requirements are different. At the end of the day, you can only please the majority but the minority do have the ability to resolve some of these issues themselves. This is primarily a board where we work with code and I think things need to be legible to the majority. The majority begins with some 3X% of people using a resolution of 1024x768 and that is where how something looks is aimed at. Use a higher resolution and things will look smaller. Fact! We are not in control of how people set their PCs, we can only aim to please the majority. There are well over 100 people a day visit this board and don't seem to have a problem. I have heard mention of the font being a bit small on maybe 5 occasions this year? SciFi, ezBoard is set at 10px. Go and have a look at one. It always has been. What does concern me is that you are seeing differences between boards. There must be a reason for that. To anyone that is having difficulty reading the font size here, you can use Ctrl+ on your keyboard to enlarge or Ctrl- to reduce. Ctrl0 (zero) will reset. You can also use the Ctrl key and your mouse scroll-wheel. I just previewed that and I really am struggling to read it easily. I actually find the verdana font in the middle at an even larger size easier to read.

Which browser are you using SciFi? And which version? Let's see if we can figure out what's happening with that?

Click on 'tools' > 'options' > 'content' > then on 'advanced' for the font section. Below the preferred fonts, you can select which minimum font size you'd like to have anywhere. If I select 12px as minimum, all fonts show automatically as 12px or larger. For what it's worth - while I was on that tab, I noticed that my primary font was set to 16px. When I changed that to 12px, the font here became teeeeeny. But once I changed the minimum font size to 12, everything (including the last edited by line) became 12px.

I've also set my minimum size to 'none', and my regular font size to 12px (so basically 'normal' settings). For me, in FF, I can now see the font in a regular size. How does this new font line affect your ability to read?

Posts: 281 26 Apr, 2009 22:35	Cedar, you've fixed the problem here! Hurrah! I checked my Firefox settings. I have it set to Verdana, size 14. Incidentally, that image I posted wasn't running over in my browser's view. Which probably means that I am more "zoomed out" and so the font size appears smaller, too, right? Anything up to 700px. Over 700px wouldn't be an issue. But in general it's always safer to first check the thumbnail box and then click on the image to post it in the post.

Here's a thumbnail of a screenshot: It's the part that has the red border around it - and it's only visible when you're IN an image folder, IN your Yuku images section.

Posts: 283 28 Apr, 2009 03:34	I know Yuku now has image hosting, but I haven't really tried it. Can we store a lot of photos, like we can with PhotoBucket? Many moons ago, ezBoard experimented with hosting images. For an additional board fee, images could be uploaded to a board, although the images could then be used anywhere. So, a group of us from many boards created a "group" board to be used only for the image hosting, and we all chipped in for it. But it had many problems, not the least of which was that anyone could easily figure out the URL and use the board's account to upload their own images for free and without our permission, and there was nothing we could do to stop them! Additionally, there were constant glitches and the servers would go offline, so all the images on our boards would suddenly disappear, leaving the members feeling like they were in a house during a blackout. Finally, ezBoard threw in the towel on its image-hosting venture and gave us all refunds.

One of these days I'll run out of space and that'll larn me. I've also been meaning to add the board's emotes to the support account but, um, never do today what you can put off 'til tomorrow... I don't find it easy to work with and use 2 browsers so I can have the 2 logins simultaneaously. I mostly do that for other people's boards though. Any 'home' boards I set up a dedicated photobucket account.
