super helper Posts: 248 14 Jan, 2007 19:51	Tags : borders, borderalignment http://favafoyo.u.yuku.com/ Here's the problem: Firefox: See the borders (left and right) on the blocks below my personal information (skins and mywebsite, not links for some reason)? (for me) they aren't lining up properly. the right side is about 3 px in further than the actual edge of the block. this only happens on those blocks. any ideas why? IE6: This occurs on the personal information block as well. also, the dotted borders show up as dashed. nono. I want dotted. Can I fix this somehow or does IE not support dotted borders (which would be just silly)? also, what does "undefined" mean? is it a problem with my coding...? thank you very much to whoever responds!

When I remove the lines in red, the dotted border suddenly fits the blocks properly in FF. In IE7 the comments-block background stretches all the way to behind column a. Just so you know? Beautiful profile, btw. Very easy on the eye.

(it was hacks I just copied over from another profile of mine to get started) thank you for the comment. I am hoping it appeals to people who don't like web 2.0 style (the ones who whine about the supposedly ugly skins in the library... whatever). no 3d, no fancy curved edges. just elegance :D (which also happens to be the name.) I have no idea why ie7 does that, and I know just as little about ie7 bugs as I do ie6 bugs (which is pretty much.. nothing) so I have no idea where to begin to fix that. Maybe I could apply a width? and finally, I am not sure how Kalsey's workaround can be applied here. He is using that for hr lines... and I need it for actual borders? :/ can you apply a background as a border?

super helper Posts: 1486 14 Jan, 2007 20:32	Nah - I just posted that there cuz it is apparently normal that dotted borders are changed into dashed borders. It was more of a reply to your question "or does IE not support dotted borders (which would be just silly)?" I don't know that there is a work-around, unless you use a dotted border image. And yes, you can use a background as a border - Alison and Becky are stars at that.

domain staff Posts: 544 17 Jan, 2007 14:05	The problem is that IE doesn't like 1 pixel dotted lines. Larger sized dotted lines are fine by IE. Here's a test I did to compare (check it in Forefox and IE): http://japan.yuku.com/ (NOTE: I'm probably not going to keep this test code up long.)

super helper Posts: 1486 17 Jan, 2007 16:09	Wow. Wouldcha lookit dat! That's pretty funky. In IE7 the 3px dotted looks like tiny plus signs... and the 4px dotted looks like bold dots. In FF it all looks like squares. 1x1 px square, 2x2 px sq. 3x3px sq... weird. I like the 3px in IE, but I don't like it in FF. The 2px dotted would be the best one I'd guess... in a lighter colour, obviously.
