FF 2.0 |

Whew! I think I finally figured what was wrong with my Firefox, knock on wood! After completely uninstalling and reinstalling 2.0 3 times and a couple of lower
levels twice. Plus checking every file I could find in my computer...I think it was my Windows firewall, hahaha! So I was right. Mr. Gates did put something in
to stop it, lolol. Anyway I had not bothered with that as I have the firefox.exe listed as an exception, so it should have been fine. But the Firefox site kept
talking about the firewall, so I thought what the hell. I took the FF exe out. Rebooted. Put it back. Firefox crashed again. Took it out again. Rebooted. Put
it back. And I am happy to say I have been on FF 2.0 this whole entire day editing my test boards and have not crashed once. And I have 3 FF windows open and 2
IE ones plus AIM, Gmail and Winmessenger, lol. So, I hope this is a good sign. I am a bit afraid I will jinx it by posting, but oh well, hahaha!

Ha! A suspicious mind might say Mr Gates is trying to scupper the success of Firefox! It's always Windows' fault in the end, no matter what the problem

I'm a tad confused did you shut off Windows Firewall in the end? Wish I had thought of that I shut mine down the day computer arrived with XP on it. Well
that's not quite true computer arrived and XP had to be loaded then I told Window's Firewall where it could go I like mine better.

No it is not shut down. But you can add exceptions to it. Because some ports have to be able to open for you :D. I used to use a Norton one and had the Win one
shut off. But now I use CA antivirus and the Win Firewall. So far I like the CA antivirus pretty well. You get it for one year for free. Norton had started to
drive me nuts. I had just updated my Norton on my laptop and frankly, I hate it. It is in everything. Really annoying. So when my copy ran out on this puter I
decided to try the CA one :D.
Oh and Red...any Firewall (not just the Windows one) can cause trouble with Firefox. They have instructions on their site of what to do for each particular Firewall. |

I don't have any problems with my Firewall and F/F though I have heard of others that do. Strange that, how some of us have no problems then others like
yourself are constantly drowning in it. Norton I couldn't get rid of quick enough it was such an intrusive buggar. It's gone way down in the ratings
game compared to others so you made the right choice there. I will keep my fingers crossed you have no more problems - you realise it is hard to type that way
don't you. *grins*
Hey that reminds me you still trying out the new face of Microsoft Windows (Vista) - I am hearing a lot of negatives about it - my computer guy says when I'm ready go for it. What I have heard I think I will stay well clear of it till it fails. *oops* Maybe that was Wine trying out Vista? |

I was going to try Vista as my husband got some free copies from Microsoft. But, my computer is not quite right for it. Really it could work except for my sound card. So anyway, I am waiting till my computer is updated before I try it. It is really expensive though and the free copy is only good for a year. He also gets a full version of Vista, the Exchange Server software and Office that are good always, but they will be in German and will be on his computer. I would like to try Vista and probably will eventually. The only real problem I see in it right now is the price! I believe Vista is something completely new as was IE7 in comparison to what was before. I am not really sure about that though. Juergen said the Office program looked different than before. He also had some question as to whether the public would buy Vista...as it won't work with a lot of the current hardware. But, I think that was the same for XP. My problems with Firefox were only in this computer, so as is normally the case....it was the huge piece of "hardware" sitting in front of the computer that was the problem, lolol! ;) |
