Yuku free message boards

You bet I'm thrilled, I'm more than thrilled. I haven't even had a chance to eat dinner yet and I know that I'll have to peel myself off the computer and go to bed sometime tonight, but something tells me it might not be too early when that happens, lol.

Dang, wish I had seen your post sooner, Redau. It's going on 3 in the morning and I'm still working on the board. Going to bed in a few minutes though.. I added some forums and it now really looks exactly like my test board. I've been experimenting on copying posts from my test board to my real deal board, but it's definitely going to be a long process.

All in all I am very happy. Things are looking up, waaayyyy up!

Why do people fear change?

Perhaps it is the reluctance of parting with something they are familiar with? Why change when you like a product? If bourbon is your favorite drink and you've been enjoying that drink for quite some time, what would happen when the producers of bourbon announced that they were going to stop distributing it by the end of the year and start making jim beam instead? I bet that most people would keep drinking the bourbon until there is nothing left. The majority would not say oh yay, something new, let's ditch that old stuff right now!
This is where we, board owners, have a responsibility. Even though the product might taste a bit bitter at times, we stay positive and talk highly of it.

The posts at the help forums after the hack proved how many people are closely attached to their boards. Losing the content was devastating. There is probably a fear of losing things again, but once people come to understand that this is not going to happen it might ease their minds. Do I miss ezboard? I do and I have, but I have met some truly wonderful people whom would be strangers to me today if it weren't for Yuku.

Is there anything that you've noticed that did not come over as expected? Be really critical, and list anything at all that you notice!

Yes, I made a list and posted it on my board. I'll copy most of it here..
The good stuff..

*Moderators moved over and still have their moderator status
*All posts moved over but the sticky topics sunk to the date they were posted as they lost their sticky and didn't stay on top.
*Member list moved over correctly.
*I don't see *any* problems at all.
*Copying the skin from my yuku test board took less than a minute and was successful.
*I can edit the migrated forums without a problem.

Stuff that needs to be looked at.

*The migrated board is listed under "shopping" and it was definitely not listed under shopping on ezboard.
*A big booboo appears in the "Master Library" forum. A deleted user (previously deleted her name on ezboard) turns into "Administrator". (The "user name" becomes administrator, not the title) Her user name used to be Sandra or something similar.
I don't see her on the members list.
*I wonder why the moderators show in only certain forums and not in other forums. For example, in the personal libraries (the forums on the bottom of the main page) there should be moderators showing.
*Folder number 5 (containing the forums Het Vlaamse Hoekje and Alle Landen/All Countries) is supposed to say "International Terminal" but it won't save the input. Will try again when I'm fresh in the morning.

Observations.

*My title changed to owner/ezop while it is owner/owner on my yuku test board.
Custom titles are gone (which was to be expected).
*Title of people who have posted since the move is member/registered member.
Titles for moderators are moderator/moderator. (I don't see this on my test board)
*Page count on the forums is off. My forum The Living Room has 14 pages on ezboard, it has 17 pages on yuku. (However, this will be tough to see now as I split the Living Room forum up in two different sections)
**In all the forums nobody has posted in since the move, the topics that show in the last post column are the OLDEST topics in each forum. I am assuming that this will fix itself once someone posts in those forums. (again, hard to see as I have been moving a lot of things around)


The list is supplemented on my board with suggestions and questions, but that's the most part of it here.

The owner of the board I admin does not want to come over and the other posters show no interest either

So it are the people who posted on my ezboard as unregistered users whose user names turn into administrator.

I had such users in two forums, the Hallway and the Master Library.

The post in the Hallway just "doubled" a minute ago. One post says administrator, the other has the user's name the way it was on ezboard. The one with the administrator name shows as "post cannot be found"

The post in the Master Library now shows up as "post cannot be found also, but has not been duplicated. Maybe someone is in the process of working on it, I'll wait a bit and see what happens.

edited to add.. they fixed it now. The posts have both been duplicated.

ROFL.. can you tell I'm not a drinker? I'll have to live this one down. Let's pray that Fran doesn't read this or she'll poke me!

Yeah I know, we can only do what we can do as far as urging the members goes to check things out. But in the end I'm confident that people will come to love yuku. After all, it IS a wonderful product that offers lots of possibilities.

I noticed a difference in my control panel. The user levels seem different since the move, not the same as on my yuku test board that has been around for a while. I'll go back and compare, maybe I'll take a screen shot of it (but I have to go feed the chickens soon)

I can't compare things from before the hack because I got nothing back on my board after the hack, so all the posts made on my board are from after the hack.

I've never touched the user groups on either one of my boards.
The user groups on my migrated board are

Moderator
Welcome visitor
Regular visitor
Registered member.

"joined" date is 9/12/2006 for every member. (except for two members who joined today)

The member levels welcome visitor and regular visitor are the same levels I had on my ezboard, but when people post now at the board their title is member/registered member (or is it registered user, I forgot)

On my yuku test board the groups are
Administrator
Member
Blogger

Edited to add.. I posted at the migrated ezdesign. After posting I noticed that my user level is "Part of the furniture" the same I had when I posted on the ezboard ezdesign. Am I right to assume that new members posting after the move will NOT get the user levels that came over from ezboard and show in our control panel?

Four new people have posted since last night, one of them is Ransom who has temp admin rights so his level is administrator, but the other three got member/registered user and according to my levels it should be member/welcome visitor.
