I am reasonably inexperienced with building a forum and am having the damnedest time figuring out how to modify the colours on this part of the page:

Hi moxie!
You are asking to change the most basic part of the page. It is called the "body". Normally, this would be one of the first things defined. I have had a look at your board and I see that if the body is changed, pretty much everything will take on that color because it is transparent. I don't think you want that. So, this is going to involve more than one change. I am going to make a decision for you here and if you don't think it is right, please don't go ahead and tell me exactly what you want. All I am going to do is tell you how to change the background color of the body as well as the "box". That will restore the white to everything that is in a "box" and hence it should look how you wish. Maybe I'm wrong. You may want more white or you may want additional items white. If you go: Admin > Design > Customized Skins. Scroll down to the skin you have as "Active Default". Click "edit html" beside that skin. Scroll down to the third box (Advanced CSS). Scroll that box down just a little until you see: /* ------------------ generic layout module --------------------- */ Be very careful here not to misplace anything or delete something accidentally. We are going to make 2 small changes. Firstly the color of the body background and secondly add a background color to the boxes. Edit that section as below, obviously pick your own colors. /* ------------------ generic layout module --------------------- */After you have made these changes, scroll to the bottom of the page and click save. If you need a little more help, just come back and ask. It was helpful having your screenshot because it made things clear.

Wow, now that's what I call support! I really appreciate the reply, it was exactly what I was looking for. I did manage to solve the problem by your
advise. Feel free to let me know what you think of the overall appearance of the forum now that I have made the background a solid black. I also wouldn't
mind hearing some other suggestions to improve the overall functionality or appearance of the forum.
Thanks again, -Moxie |

I just had a look. It looks great in black!
What I normally do is make a topic on the board and ask for feedback. Beware though because you will never please everyone. It is impossible because everyone sees things a little different from the other depending on their setup. The more you do, the easier it becomes. Most of us here started knowing little or nothing. One thing I would stress though is that you keep backups of any work that you do. That way when (yes I said when ) something goes wrong, you can just
revert to an older version and not have to start from scratch. You can do this in 2 ways: If you press copy next to the skin, it will make another skin with
"Copy of" in front of it. Beware though because if you do this twice, you will end up with 2 having the same name. You can delete one or edit
it's title first. The other way is to use the export button to save a copy to a folder on your PC. You can restore by using the "import yuku
skin" button, if need be.

That sounds like a wise move... I will keep that in mind, especially if I decide to make any significant changes to the layout. Thanks again for the help.

I have one final question which relates to customizing my post icons... I have made a post icon for New Posts and No New Posts. How do I bring these to my
forum exactly?

OK, I presume they are on your PC. You would have to upload them to either webspace or image hosting.
You have image hosting with yuku. You could sign up with a free and pretty reliable image host like Photobucket. This FAQ explains how to work with yuku images. http://gethelp.yuku.com/topic/866 Whichever way you choose, you will upload your file from your PC to the Internet. Once it is there, it will have a URL. The URL is what you need. Go to your skin, click the "images" button beside it, paste the URL in the appropriate box. If you click on the white page after pasting, you should see the image appear and this will confirm you got it right. Scroll to the bottom of the page when you are finished and click Save. |
